For our Toronto office we are seeking a technically strong and solution-oriented Software Engineer to join the IT force in our Group IT Department. In this position you’ll reinforce the team responsible for a wide variety of solutions, which supports the business activities in the Life & Health unit.

About the team:

As a key member of a small and versatile team you will be responsible for the development of new applications as well as application changes, from design and development to testing, and last but not least for the support. This position includes not only software development, but also analysis of the requirements,specification design and 2nd level support.

Key skills:

In more detail your area of duties will be:

Software Design and Development:

In cooperation with the Business Experts and Business Analysts

• Studying business needs and investigating problems
• Analysing and documenting inter-system dependencies in a heterogenous environment
• Producing or supporting the creation of required artefacts (Product Backlog Items or specification documents)

• Contributing to project planning

• Desiging and developing software solutions

Solution Testing, Installation and Support:

• Developing automated tests as well as user support during acceptance tests
• Preparing and supporting the deployment of the solutions
• Providing second level production support

Operations:

• Providing 2nd level support to the Users
• Continuous Improvement: conducing system and process analysis, recommending and initiating changes

About you:

To be an ideal candidate you have the following background, skills and mindset:

• A university degree or equivalent in Computer Science
• At least 4 years recent experience in designing and developing software solutions
• Proficiency in .NET Framework or .NET Core (C#), front-end web development (JavaScript, jQuery, AngularJS/Angular, TypeScript, Bootstrap, ASP.NET MVC, Blazor), Entity Framework, relational databases (MS SQL), data modeling etc.
• Ability to work with an existing large code base, leveraging multiple programming lanaugages and frameworks.
• Experienced in applying architecture and design patterns
• Version control (Azure DevOps with GIT, GitLab), CI/CD pipelines
• Experienced in agile software development
• Excellent communication and language skills in English (proficient verbal and in writing), as you will interact with the IT and the Business community on a daily basis
• High motivation, curiousity and capable of working in a intercultural environment in a global enterprise
• Ability to work effectively both within a team, across other teams and also independently
• Driven towards finding solutions and being responsive
• Experience in multiple programming languages (R, Python) is a plus
• Experience in the insurance or reinsurance business is a plus.
