Become the Crew Leader of our Lawn Maintenance crew, supervising and working with your assistants to maintain our client's lawns. Most properties are country estate residences, varying in size and design. The standard of landscape care is exceptional. All staff meet at our farm in Glencairn each day and head out in the company vehicle to the work sites.

The Lawn Maintenance crew is responsible for all aspects of safe and efficient lawn and property maintenance, including but not limited to the following:

  • Operating professional lawn mowers
  • Operating leaf blowers and string trimmers
  • Operating mechanical sweeping and dethatching equipment
  • Operating mechanical hedge trimmers
  • Spreading mulch in gardens
  • Raking debris and leaves
  • Assisting with other landscaping jobs as required
  • Maintaining all equipment

The successful applicant will:

  • Have previous experience working as a Lawn Maintenance Crew Leader, or 3-5 years experience in the industry and be ready to step into a supervisory role
  • Enjoy leading an efficient, professional and collaborative team
  • Be able to safely drive a cube van with crew and equipment to the job sites
  • Be comfortable operating, training and supervising assistants to operate professional lawn equipment
  • Be physically fit and energetic with great work ethic. Able to lift, bend and carry effectively. Able to walk for long periods. Able to be active all day
  • Be able to plan ahead and schedule the work week, but able to adjust and make decisions on the ground as necessary
  • Possess superior time management and attention to detail skills
  • Able to keep accurate site records
  • Able to motivate and lead crew members by listening, teaching, giving direction and offering constructive criticism
  • Possess a passion for physical, outdoor work. Enjoy and take great pride in creating a quality landscape
  • Be willing and able to work outside in all weather
  • Possess outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to connect positively with other crew members and clients
  • Lead by example - Comply with and explain all company policies and regulations to crew members
  • Possess first aid training
  • Look forward to returning to this seasonal position each year, in order to build continuity

Job Type / Category

  • Seasonal work - Early April to mid-November
  • We do not offer any winter work
  • Full days, 8am to 5pm, 5 days a week - Monday to Friday. Longer hours may be required some days in the spring or if work is delayed due to bad weather
  • The expectation is to be rehired for the position in future years

Location

  • You must have your own, reliable transport to get to work
  • We are not accessible by public transport

Required Education, Skills and Qualifications

  • High School Diploma
  • Clean full G drivers license required
  • Horticultural qualifications such as an Apprenticeship, Diploma or Degree an asset but not required
  • Willing to support employees who after working for a minimum of 1 season are interested in pursuing an Apprenticeship as a Horticultural Technician through the Ontario Apprenticeship Program.

Salary: $26.00-$30.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • No weekends
